A Brief Introduction To The Mountains In Brazil
When most people think of Brazil, they think beaches. But, actually there are some amazing mountains in Brazil that are famous all over the world. You should definitely see the mountains in Brazil if you are going there.
In the northern part of Brazil, you find the Amazon Basin, but in the middle and southern part are the Brazilian Highlands, a series of crisscrossing mountain ranges. Here you'll find mountains in Brazil that are great for hiking, climbing, and incredible views.
Unlike the mountains of the American west, mountains in Brazil are covered with lush vegetation and mist, making them especially picturesque. There are lots of state parks and outdoors activities you can enjoy.
The Mountains Around Rio
If you are into climbing, Rio de Janeiro is a great place to stay. The mountains around Rio are small and steep, and climber from all over the world come here to try them out. As an added bonus, you have all that Rio has to offer as well, including the beaches and nightlife.
The most famous among all the mountains in Brazil is Corcovado Mountain. This is because at its top is the statue Christ the Redeemer. This is the tallest statue of Jesus in the world, a true feat of architecture. The statue overlooks the city of Rio de Janeiro, and the view from atop Corcovado stretches out into the misty Atlantic Ocean.
Near Corcovado is Sugarloaf Mountain, another of the most famous mountains in Brazil. Sugarloaf gets its name from it's odd shape, as it juts out of the ground and seems to be reaching for the sky. Sugarloaf is not a terribly large mountain, at just under 400 meters, but its unusual shape makes it a spectacular sight to see, especially when it is surrounded by the morning fog.
Deeper Into The Highlands
If you really want to appreciate all the natural beauty the mountains in Brazil have, you have to go out into the boonies. There are lots of places where you can see the pristine, green mountains and enjoy the natural setting.
The Espinhaco Mountains make their way from the southern area near Sao Paulo, and wind north to the cape. Here, you'll find Almas Peak at over 6,000 feet. The Brazilian Highlands stretch from the interior where the Amazon Basin starts to rise, to the south where they almost intersect the Espinhaco Mountains near the capital of Brazilia.
