The two best beaches to visit in Fortaleza Brazil are the Praia de Iracema and the Meireles. All along the beachfront, you’ll find that there are a string of vendor shacks and shade spots where people go to sip a cold drink and watch the other tourists go by. Some of these vendors have a wide array of menu items, so you should be able to find some of your favourite Brazilian snacks without any problem.
Since some vendors can also overcharge tourists, so if you find that someone is asking a very high price and you have the time to go for a stroll, head east of the market for some food options. The Beira Mar Grill has tasty food, while the Babagula is a sandwich diner where children can keep active in the adjacent playground!
Off the Meireles beach, adventurous visitors might like to take in a surf school, which runs from Wednesday through Sunday afternoons. Both beaches also have opportunities to take a motorized schooner cruise, which takes you along the coastline on a 2-hour tour – take the later cruises if you can, since this will give you a lovely view of the sunset across the water.
If you’re looking for excellent beaches and a great party, don’t be concerned by the lack of Carnival – Fortaleza Brazil has its own festivals, and the locals are just as excited about dancing all night as anyone else! The Ceara Music Festival is an occasion for Brazilian pop, rock and techno groups to showcase their talents each October, while the Fortal off-season smaller carnival happens each year on the last weekend of July!
