The Most Popular Brazil Internet Service Sites!

There was a time when Brazil Internet Service was a dead business that very few people used or even cared very much about. Fortunately, the winds of progress have blown south and this is no longer the case.  Brazilians have recently changed their tune and undergone what has come to be known as “The Brazilian Internet Phenomenon.” In fact, a recent IBOPE/NetRatings study has revealed that Brazilians have just overtook the U.S. Internet surfing volume. Today, they are the population who spend the most time browsing around the Internet.

The “Brazil Internet Phenomenon” was first noticed in 2003. The popular photography blogging website, Fotolog.com, reported numbers of Brazilians quickly exceeded the number of users of all the other countries in the world combined. This phenomenon didn’t stay specific to Fotolog.com, however. Google’s social networking portal Orkut witnessed a spectacular boom in users from Brazil.  This number vastly surpassed the number of registers on Orkut from any other country in the world.

The Brazil Internet Service boom spawned activity all over the Internet.  Brazilian Internet users, for example, took over lots of online video games such as the super popular, “Tibia”. Experts believe that the advent of online multi-player gaming has much to do with the skyrocketing rate of Brazilians who are now using the Internet on a regular basis.

So what types of programs and chat networks are most commonly used in Brazil? It seems that each continent has its own preferred instant messenger and social networks of choice, and Brazil is no exception.

As mentioned, Orkut is wildly popular in Brazi.  Orkut is where Brazilians keep in touch with their friends, loved ones, and co-workers, as well as meet singles and network for business opportunities. No discussion of Brazil Internet service would be complete without stressing the importance of Orkut.com to the day to day lives of Brazilian locals.

Brazilians use MSN messenger in greater numbers than any other country. MSN messenger is an instant messaging program that is popular among teenagers. Brazilians have traditionally flocked around brand new Internet services as IRC, ICQ (BRASnet,  the Brazilian IRC chat room channel is one of the largest in the world), Skype, Blogspot, and Gmail.  There is a perception among non-Brazilians that the Internet isn't a big part of Brazilian life, but as you can see, this is simply not so. While the cost of Brazil Internet service can be high, this is sure to change as the Internet becomes more widespread in the area.
