Brazil World Cup Soccer Over The Years
The Brazil World Cup soccer team is undoubtedly the best in the world, holding the record of having 5 World Cup championship wins. Here is a timeline of the history of the team.
1914 - Brazil World Cup soccer gets its start. Brazil's national football team is founded, and it beats England's Exeter City club 2-0. Although local clubs thrived, Brazil could never quite get its act together to go for the World Cup championship.
1950 - Brazil was the first country to host the World Cup championship after World War 2. This is the only time Brazil has ever hosted the World Cup, despite being possibly the most soccer-crazy country on Earth. They didn't win in 1950, but came in close behind Uruguay. The loss was due to a technicality, and the failure to win the cup injured Brazilian football fans' prides for years to come.
1958 - Brazil wins its first, and definitely not last, World Cup championship. This is a turning point in Brazil World Cup soccer history. Brazil wins 5-2 against that year's World Cup championship host, Sweden.
1962 - Here we go again. Brazil gets its second World Cup soccer championship, this time in Chile. Brazil beat Czechoslovakia 3-1, making it another memorable day in Brazil World Cup soccer history.
1966 - Brazil has its worst World Cup defeat in history. This is due to the fact that there was lots of pressure on players who wanted to be on the team. This, and other internal problems, make 1966 a bad year for Brazilian football fans.
1970 - Brazil starts to dominate the world with its 3rd World Cup championship, this time with a 4-1 win against Italy. The venue is Mexico. The hero of the day is football hero Pele, who was also present at the 1958 tournament win in Sweden.
1970 - Pele and the other Brazilian football stars who made the 1970 World Cup win such a success, retire. These are hard shoes to fill, and the 1970's are not the Brazil World Cup soccer team's best years. Due to constant changes and internal trouble, they are beaten in both the 1974 and 1978 games.
1994 - Many years after it's last win, Brazil takes home its 4th World Cup championship. Brazil beats out Italy as the country to win the most World Cup championships.
2002 - Brazil's 5th World Cup championship, this time against Germany, 2-0, in Japan. Brazil World Cup soccer dashes ahead of everyone else once again. Is anybody ever going to beat this record?
