This is a great time to be entertained, because there are Samba competitions and parades each night that you can sit back and watch! Whether you pay for a great seat in advance or get a cheap ticket when you arrive – since the stands always sell out – there’s almost nothing as exciting as hearing the music and watching the samba teams as they dance past in their brightly colored costumes on elaborate floats through the streets! If you can’t make it for Carnival, some places like Rio de Janeiro have samba schools where you can actually come and watch the teams as they practice – which is the next best thing!
Musical Concerts: Brazilians love music. In fact, they love it enough that almost every city has developed some kind of local flair to their music, which makes each musical Brazil entertainment opportunity special. In Sao Paulo, there are free concerts in the park every Sunday, while places like Salvador have a musical sound that is heavily influenced by African music and instruments.
Nightlife: The best nightlife for Brazil entertainment happens in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo – in fact, the best clubs don’t normally start their acts until well after midnight, and the daily paper will provide the most current information as to what musicians or bands are playing, and at what time. The nightlife entertainment of Sao Paulo is naturally more sophisticated, but both cities frequently have appearances by internationally famous DJs and musicians. Outside these cities, most other locations have their own nightlife, though it may be primarily confined to the weekend.
Theatres: Whether you’re hoping to watch an opera, catch a play, or a movie, Brazil has plenty at nearly all the capital cities. In a lot of these places, the old historic theatres are still standing and still fully functional – you can catch plays, operas, or even orchestral concerts. The plays are often in Portuguese or another foreign language, but the major cities may have translations if you’re fortunate enough. Either way, it’s quite the experience to watch a play in a centuries-old building – the acoustics are often just as good (or better) than any modern theatre!
