Learn a little about the natural Brazil current!
Brazil current is a little known natural phenomenon that completely contributes to the way the climate in the area is. The subtropical heat and moisture owes a lot to Brazil current and so it is something that any individual learning about Brazil should look into before actually visiting the country. It is essential knowledge that taps into the popular Brazil ecotourism that makes up a large portion of the tourism going to the area at the moment. As such, it directly affects the local ecosystems and the economy at the same time!
Brazil current is borne off of the Atlantic Ocean, which brings a warm current into the waters off the coast. It was actually one of the first currents discovered and documented in relation to the New World and trading patterns that allowed companies like the East India Trading Company to run to South and North America at the time.
Brazil current runs from 9 to 38 degrees South, thus hitting a good portion of the Brazilian coast, including a section of the Amazon. Although it has often been equated to the Gulf Stream to the North, it is nowhere near as powerful, and does not cause or contribute to hurricanes. However, it does influence the climate and the weather. The reason being that Brazil current actually brings in warm air, which thus contributes to the tropical climate. Of course, when that warm air meets cool air, it brings storms, but the warm air in itself is enough to bring tropical storms with it! Without this precipitation, the ecosystems in the rain forests would fail because it is the climate that actually produces growth and regeneration of the new forest and enhances the health of the existing forest.
The Brazilian current also determines that change in seasons via the temperature level. The temperature actually varies between 18C and 28C, with the latter end being summer and the former denoting winter. It is important that the very delicate ecosystems that can be found in Brazil have a summer and a winter in order maintain the equilibrium of each one, allowing regrowth at regular intervals. It is also the varying temperatures that determine the nature of the different ecosystems within the country – rainforest, wetlands and savannah. From this, you can see just how important the Brazil current is to maintaining Brazil as we know and love it. After all, where would Brazil be without the natural beauty that Brazil current facilitates?
