You can also see some natural caves and waterfalls here, making this the most complete rainforest experience you can have without actually venturing into the heart of the Amazon itself!
Another highly unique experience in Belem Brazil is the Mercado Ver-o-Peso, or “Check the Weight” market. This market was established in 1688 and has continued until today, and contains everything from modern offerings to more folk-like items. You can find medicinal herbs, locals arts and crafts, meat, Brazilian spices, and even more – it’s an excellent place to spend the afternoon, and you could even buy your lunch here while browsing the stalls!
The colonial buildings of Belem Brazil are an excellent starting point for anyone interested in Brazilian history. The Praca Batista Campos, Forte do Castelo, or the Teatro da Paz present a very good insight into the city’s past. At the Teatro, guests can pay a small fee for a tour of the building, which is a great example of the wealth that poured into Brazil during the rubber boom!
